About Silky Terriers
Silky Terriers were developed in Australia in the late 1800s by crossing Yorkshire Terriers with Australian Terriers, aiming for a small companion that kept the silky blue and tan coat without losing the working terrier underneath. Early on they were known as Sydney Silkies, and they earned their keep clearing rats and snakes out of backyards and stables. They are still called Australian Silky Terriers in their home country, and the glamorous coat has never once convinced a Silky that it is a lap ornament.
